Skerries Chess Club

Membership of the club is open to all, adults and juniors of all playing strengths, from Skerries and surrounding areas, subject to ratification by the committee. Membership is for the extended playing season from September to July. Non-playing parents are asked to volunteer to help in some way with the running of the junior section of the club. Normally this means by joining the Parents` Rota (see link). All members over 16 and one parent from each family need to be Garda Vetted (see link in menus above).

Membership Fees

COVID update: The fees below are amended due to the possibility of the club being online for part of the season because of restrictions aimed at reducing the spread of COVID-19.

Members Fees while Normal fees when
club is online club is open
____________ ______________ ________________
Adult €40 (€80)
U18s/Students €35 (€70)
Reductions* €10 (€10)
*For second and subsequent family members fees are
reduced by this amount.
A further reduction of €10 can be claimed by a junior
who has paid for Gold Membership of
ICU contribution** €5 (Sept.) (€10 after Sept.)
**For those (mostly adults) who want to play in the
Leinster leagues, they pay this amount extra.

To begin with, adults will pay €40 and students or U20s pay €35. When the club reopens supplementary fees will be requested to bring the total in line with or less than the normal fees, depending on how long the club is open in reality. Those whose fees are unpaid will not be included in tournaments. Former members are always welcome to visit the club be it real or online. New members are welcome to visit to try it out before joining. Entry to all club tournaments, teams and coaching is included in the annual membership fee and therefore free to members.

**Players who are likely to be playing in the Leinster leagues (not the Community Games or other junior rapidplay events) should pay the contibution towards ICU membership. ICU fees normally cost the club €35 for adults, €20 for over 65s, €20 for juniors who have been ICU members before or €10 for new junior members of the ICU. ICU fees are reduced during September 2020 hence the reduction in the contribution if paid during this time. Details of these leagues are on the Teams link above. Members who are unsure about playing in the leagues may pay the ICU fee contibution later.
